As
you know, our state’s economy is struggling. In January,
the national unemployment rate was 4.7%, and Michigan’s
unemployment rate was 7.6%, well above the national
average. This rate rose from 6.7% in December, and all
we hear locally still are warnings of more layoffs,
bankruptcies, and so forth.
As
a “transplant” to Michigan, I’ve long been aware that
we don’t have one of the helpful support groups for
unemployed professionals (or those fearing unemployment)
that other major metropolitan areas do. For
that reason, on March 1, a new organization, miSURVIVES.org,
was launched, and we need your help as we grow.
Michigan Survives is a professional support and educational
group designed to provide effective networking, key
topical information and emotional support and motivation
for those in transition.
Our
2nd event will be Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at
6:00pm at Bailey's in Dearborn. There’s no
fee to attend. We are launching 5 key industry network
groups focused on FINDING SOLUTIONS. The 5 industry
groups are:
1)
Engineering & Manufacturing
2) IT
3) Life Sciences & R&D
4) Sales & Marketing
5) HR, Finance & Legal
Each
attendee will be expected to bring 3 ideas for his/her
industry or profession. Please see the attached newsletter
for all details, go to www.miSURVIVES.org
or email info@miSURVIVES.org
for more information.
PLEASE
FORWARD THIS TO ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN LAID OFF, IS WORRIED
ABOUT IT, WANTS TO AVOID IT, OR WOULD BE INTERESTED
IN GETTING INVOLVED. Don’t
miss this critical event where we get to work on finding
solutions! We will have guest presenters on April
5 and will be focused on the future of this
needed new organization to help our community and our
state stay strong globally.
Register
today. We expect a large turnout, so secure
your industry reservation today. Get involved! Thank
you in advance for your help and support.
